To complement a long face and give it attractive symmetry, the cutter will create the illusion of width to balance the length of the face. Layering around the face, especially the cheekbone and eye area, will break out the strong vertical lines; single-length, straight hair and you will accentuate and elongate an already long face. Banks are a good way to shorten the face, as is a site part, which allows more volume on the sides of the face. Parting the hair to one side also adds roundness.
The square face: a square face has a strong jaw and a wide forehead and, without the proper cut, can appear hard-edged and slightly masculine. Your hairstyle should avoid emphasizing the squarest regions of your face. Layering around the face softens the lines and curly or wavy styles give the face some feminine roundness. The length of the hair should extend below the jaw line. Pulled-back hairstyle served only to shift the focus to the jaw line.
